Captain Darren Hayes:

It was a great honor for me to be asked by 2022 Captain Brian Slattery to be his vice Captain and to become Captain of County Tipperary Golf & Country Club for 2023.

The year has been very successful; starting with the Captain’s Drive-in with Lady Captain Jacinta Coman on February 19th and both Junior Captains, David Ryan & girls captain Aoife O’Donoghue.

Dundrum Golf course is in my view one of the best in Ireland even though it is a work in progress with constant improving and updating.

The membership has increased dramatically in recent years. It is a great pleasure to see so many members playing in our competitions every weekend.

We are very fortunate in Dundrum right now to have three excellent professional golfers under the leadership of Marian Riordan; we have Colin O’Gorman & Evan McGrath all making a big contribution to the standard of golf. There are constant lessons available for our junior golfers and it is showing. The Junior Golfers were involved in many competitions especially this year. They played in the Fred Daly competition until they lost to Faithlegg who went on to win the All Ireland. They participated in the Sixes League which gave the team the opportunity to play in West Waterford, Clonmel, Tipperary Town golf club and at home in Dundrum. Our team came 3rd in the competition just one point short of 2nd place.

The highlight of the year was the success of our mixed team getting to an all Ireland semi-final. They gave us much pleasure along the way. We are looking forward to next year.

Early in the year we had a very successful Club Classic with a record number of teams taking part. We also hold a number of competitions where the total takings go to a nominated charity.

We are looking forward to the opening of the new driving range it will be of benefit to many members who wish to use it. When it is fully complete it will facilitate members playing competitions on many golf courses around the world through the use of Trackman Technology.

On a sad note; we lost the founder and first President of Co Tipperary Golf & Country Club Austin Crowe May he Rest in Peace.

We are indeed fortunate that the proprietor of Dundrum House Golf and Leisure centre, Jeff Leo continues to invest heavily in our golf course continuing to up the standard.

I am very fortunate to have a committee that are very dedicated to the success of our club and spare no effort in ensuring that the club is run to the highest standard.

Lady Captain Jacinta.

It is truly a great honour to have been Lady Captain   of County Tipperary Golf & Country Club for 2023.What a privelge and what a year.

My role started  off in December, surrounded by many  lady members  and our wonderful committee of just 11 .What a hard working group of volunteers who keep the club working successfully .I would really like to thank my committee.

The 18 hole  golf course in Dundrum  is a joy to play , and the envy of many visitors .It is constantly being improved and upgraded .Our Pro shop is a welcoming place with  all our golfers needs met, lots of equipment , style and lessons  provided.

The club goes from strength to strength, with  just over 600 members.

Many memorable events this year were  our Christmas scramble where the Greenkeepers got their revenge, our Table Quiz fundraiser in March , Our Spring League Team Event and a hugely successful Down Syndrome Golf Classic in March . The Alliance competitions kept us visiting other clubs over the winter.

The year of golf started in earnest then in April with markers out and off we went.  Medal  Competitions  and others competitions  started , rules nights and lessons began.Teams were entered and managers got to work selecting and practising with their teams . Two new team events were entered , The Mary Mc Kenna  and The Carton Cup. Caddies were chosen and a long and very competitive  season  followed. The highlight for us all was winning the pennant for the club,   and then  the qualification for The Flogas Mixed Foursomes All Ireland Final in Knightsbrook in September. We are  so proud of  our player panels, our managers and our supporters. There was such a buzz around the club.

For me personally the  high points were our Play in Pink Two Day Event   in June , raising a staggering €14,500.Great thanks must be given to Jeff Leo and his wife WinnieAnna for their generosity  for this great cause. What fun we had , what visitors we welcomed . What a coffee morning!

My Lady Captain’s Day shared by Captain Darren Hayes was a great occasion for all , and hotly contested . Congratulations to all prizewinners and for making it a memorable day for me as Lady Captain.

Our monthly  mixed scramble  on Thursdays were so enjoyable. Thanks to all our sponsors.

The  Calendar for the year was so busy but rewarding and  now comes to a close , culminating  with our Captains dinner together in November. We  have more to look forward to next year and  wishing   everyone all the best for 2024.

Yours ,Lady Captain ,

Jacinta Coman.
